Janae Phillips was born in the Sonoran Desert, a place that demands imagination. Engaging with prose, experiential objects, and teaching as artforms of equal measure, Janae’s work invites the beholder to pause and consider what makes them themselves and what makes us connected.
A queer woman herself, Janae has been queering the art of training for over a decade by inviting care, play, and deconstruction into her teaching practice. Having survived a cult at a young age, she learned early on the immense power of asking: why?
Unable to shake the influence of weird 80s fantasy films, and being someone who cries if she thinks too long about the time-crossed love affair that is humans and dinosaurs, her work tends to involve both magic and a deep love of humanity.
