Janae Phillips (she/her) is a writer and community organizer with over a decade of experience in youth, fandom, and digital organizing. As the Co-Managing Director of Fandom Forward, Janae has helped shape the landscape of fan activism. As a curriculum writer and training facilitator, she’s trained thousands of the next generation of activists around the world.
Janae writes about love, community, and the complicated business of everyday life. She is a queer woman from the Sonoran Desert and lives on traditional Tohono O’Odham land in the quirky, complicated, magical city of Tucson. She’s an amateur ceramicist (her vessel integrity varies) and a museum enthusiast (will cry when presented with a dinosaur). You can learn more about her at janae.online

She holds a B.S. in Family Studies and Human Development and an M.S. in Educational Technology from the University of Arizona. As the Co-Managing Director of Fandom Forward, Janae has helped shape the landscape of fan activism. As a curriculum writer and training facilitator, she’s trained thousands of the next generation of activists around the world. She has written for Education Week, Youth Today, and the Journal of Transformative Works and Culture, and has appeared as a speaker and panelist at dozens of conferences across the country.
